After watching Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn’s press conferences at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, Gio isn’t feeling any more hopeful that he will be proven wrong about his assessment of the Jets new regime.
Gio wanted the organization to go in the more experienced direction, but they instead hired two first-timers, and Gio says that inexperience shined through during Tuesday’s interviews.
“I don’t want to be right about our assessment of who the Jets hired and how we wanted someone with experience, both as a general manager and a head coach,” Gio said. “I really don’t want to be right. But man, those two press conferences they had, they did not get off to a good start. And that’s being kind.”
Mougey declined to go into any kind of detail about the Aaron Rodgers decision, while a fiery Glenn vented about being “pissed off” with members of his team not being mentioned when discussing leaders, or “winning players.” It didn’t come off well to Gio, particularly Mougey, who he said was way too animated with his gestures in a way that didn’t come off as genuine.
“They’re learning. They’re learning on the job,” Gio said. “They’ll get better at those things, I hope. But man, I just feel like we’re doing the same thing over and over again. Maybe that’s because we are.
“He’s using his hands in a full-of-crap politician way…stop! Act like a human!”
