Gio says Jets regime was doomed on this specific day

As Gio discussed the Jets latest downfall with Willie Colon, he says the recently dismissed regime doomed themselves with one major mistake that occurred years before they were fired.

It happened in Utah back in 2021, when Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh watched Zach Wilson firing 60-yard darts off his back foot in shorts and a t-shirt.

“The Zach Wilson pick was as bad as there’s ever been,” Gio said. “The one day that ruined Rob Saleh and Zach Wilson, there was one particular day that sent everything down the tubes, and it was Zach Wilson’s Pro Day. That Pro Day, when he made that throw on the run and everyone fell in love with him, it was done. That was a disaster.”

Wilson obviously turned out to be a major bust, one of the worst in NFL history given where he was drafted at second overall and the premium position that he plays. The BYU product was a disaster with the Jets, and Gio says that is what doomed Saleh and Douglas, whiffing on the most important position on the roster.

Willie Colon says the next regime not only needs to hit on their next quarterback, but put together a winning culture that seems to be lacking in the wake of Saleh and Douglas’ dismissal.

“The next regime, whoever that is, it has to be someone who steps in that building, and you know he’s in charge,” Colon said. “The culture is set because that guy is here. Robert Saleh wasn’t able to do that.”
