Mike White, after it was revealed that he has five broken ribs, has played his final snap of the season, as he will be on the sidelines in street clothes for the Jets’ season finale on Sunday.

Has he also taken his last snap with the Jets?

The soon-to-be free agent showed plenty of promise when healthy and in the starting role, which could lead to other teams showing interest in an offseason that may see lots of quarterback shuffling. But if it were up to White, he would stay right where he is, and where he became a hit in the clubhouse and a cult hero among the fanbase.

“I mean, I love it here,” White said Friday, via SNY. “I love the guys, I love the staff, I love the offense. I love, I mean shoot, my kids have basically been growing up and raised in Florham Park, so I really like it here. Now whatever happens, happens, but I know that I do enjoy it here and I enjoy playing with these guys in this locker room, and I would love to be back.”

The Jets would likely share that sentiment, but the question becomes what White’s role would look like in New York next season. The team continues to express public belief in Zach Wilson, despite his struggles, which could complicate White’s quest to be a consistent starting quarterback, which he believes he is capable of at the NFL level.

“I do view myself as a starter in this league,” White said. “Now, whether that happens here or not, we’ll wait and see, that’s not up to me, but like I told you guys earlier, I am proud of what I’ve put on film, and I thought I did a lot of good things.

"Now, was I perfect by any means? No, we still went 1-for-6 or whatever it was in the red zone in Minnesota, and that can’t happen. Felt like we could’ve scored more points in Buffalo, but overall body of work, I am proud of what I was able to accomplish.”

Did White do enough to convince the Jets to try him as the consistent starter next season, with the talent around the quarterback position seemingly ready to contend? Will it be enough to keep White in New York next season?

“I don’t know, I guess we’ll wait and see,” White said. “If any of you guys got a crystal ball, let me know.”
