Adding injury to insult after Thursday night’s blowout loss to the Colts, Jets head coach Robert Saleh indicated that veteran safety Marcus Maye is likely done for the season after suffering an Achilles injury.
“It doesn’t look good,” Saleh said bluntly.

Maye, who was at the center of trade speculation but stayed put at the deadline earlier this week, went down without contact in the third quarter, and a visibly concerned Saleh later hinted that Maye might have ruptured his Achilles, which would sideline him for the rest of the season.
Maye is on a franchise tag and is a free agent after the season, and leaves an immediate hole in an otherwise inexperienced secondary.
“Its huge. Marcus, you look at that secondary, he’s the vet,” Saleh said. “You’ve got a lot of second-year rookie players and a lot of second and first-year players ion that back end, and Marcus was kind of that settling force back there, and obviously a heck of a football player.”
But for Saleh, the greater concern is for Maye himself, the latest key Jets contributor to go down with an injury. This one seems particularly serious.
“I’m more concerned for Marcus than what we’ll do defensively to fill that void,” Saleh said. “He’s a fantastic young man, he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. I’m sick for him.”
