Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys are reportedly parting ways, meaning the experienced head coach will be there for the taking for the several NFL teams with a head coaching vacancy.
Dallas fans have had their issues with McCarthy despite three straight 12-win seasons before this injury-riddled campaign, but Evan says he would welcome the problem that Cowboys fans have with McCarthy, in that he has struggled to get past the divisional round. For a franchise laboring through the longest active playoff drought in pro sports, Evan says the Jets need to get on the phone.
“What needs to happen right now if you’re the Jets...you should interview him,” Evan said. “The Jets have interviewed everybody in this country...call up Mike McCarthy.”
Even if the interview didn’t result in a hire, Evan says it would be beneficial to interview McCarthy to get perhaps the most revealing and accurate answer about their future at quarterback.
“Here’s what you can find out that no one else knows...the exclusive, uncensored opinions of Mike McCarthy on Aaron Rodgers,” Evan said. “Let him tell you the damn truth.
“Currently, who are they getting intel on about Aaron Rodgers that actually knows Aaron Rodgers? The only person who knows him is someone who coached him. I don’t think matt LaFleur is giving any intel on Aaron Rodgers right now? So why not, if for anything else?”
Tiki Barber also believes McCarthy would be able to give a valuable insight into Rodgers and whether it is worth running it back with him in 2025, because who else would have a more valued opinion than his former head coach who he won a Super Bowl with and had a not-so-smooth breakup with in Green Bay?
“‘Tell us what you think Aaron Rodgers is gonna be at 41 years old,’” Tiki said. “If you get him into your office and ask him, ‘Do you want Aaron Rodgers coming back?’ His answer would tell you a lot...if Mike McCarthy says yes...then that’s gotta make you think twice - in a good way - about him being your next head coach.”
