Joe & Jerry think there's no reason Jets can't win the AFC East…but imagine if they win it all?

Joe Benigno and Jerry Recco agree with what many are saying: there’s no reason the Jets can’t win the AFC East.

“If the Jets play their game, I don't know that there's many teams better in this league than they are in terms of on paper, what they should be,” Jerry said. “Assuming health, which is the biggest issue here.”

“The goal for me, at least as a Jet fan, is win the division in the first year,” Joe replied. “They’ve won two division titles since the merger, and none since 2002…Buffalo has come back a bit, I don’t think Miami is that good, and the Patriots are not the Patriots of old; as long as Belichick is on the sidelines, they’re dangerous, but it’s time to beat them, and there’s no reason they can't win.”

A first division title in two decades would be awesome for Gang Green and their fans…but imagine if, in the first year of the Aaron Rodgers era, he wins them their first Super Bowl in 50+ years?

Peter Schwartz, in the update chair this week, said his wife would have to call 911 because he’d have a heart attack, and Joe B. might not be far behind.

“It would be fitting for me to be in Vegas for them and the Super Bowl,” Joe said. “All they have to do is get there – I haven’t had a drink in 10 years because of my stomach, but double Beefeater martini!”

In all seriousness, he thinks it would be very emotional, and while Jerry remembers his Cowboys’ brutal 1980s and how he felt when they won in 1992, there won’t be any such feelings of “okay, no what?” for Joe and Gang Green nation.

“The first one I was 15, and it was phenomenal – but there’s no way that would match how I would feel about this one,” Joe said. “My appreciation level after all the pain and losing we’ve been through as Jets fans, I can’t imagine it.”

Joe saw his Jets, Mets, and Knicks all win in the span of 18 months, and since then, it’s one title for the latter two, a few finals/World Series, and a whole lot of bupkus – so this would be breaking a streak of 50+ for the Jets, and not 37 and counting overall...and zero for anyone who doesn’t remember 1986.

“It’s going to be such a big deal – Evan has never seen any of his teams win,” Joe said. “Any young guy who is a Mets and Jets fan hasn’t seen any championships!”
