Justin Fields carted off at Jets camp after suffering toe injury

UPDATE: The Jets announced Fields suffered a dislocated toe in his right foot, and is day-to-day.

The Jets hyped new era looked to be off to a disastrous start, but a major sigh of relief came from Florham Park after Aaron Glenn provided an update.

According to reporters at training camp, quarterback Justin Fields was carted off with what appeared to be a lower leg injury after throwing an incompletion during drills on Thursday morning. Glenn told reporters after practice that Fields suffered a toe injury after a teammate likely stepped on it. Fields will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

The initial fear was a potential season-ending injury like an Achilles or an ACL, but it appears as if the team avoided the absolute worst, though Fields could still miss time depending on the results of the MRI.

According to the New York Post, Fields fell to the ground after the throw and limped to the sideline before being carted away. Fields left the cart under his own power but limped into the locker room.

Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract to be the Jets starting quarterback under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. He was replaced in team drills by Tyrod Taylor before Glenn switched to special teams drills.

The initial injury scare was an eerie reminder of Aaron Rodgers going down with an Achilles injury just four snaps into his hyped Jets tenure, as he was lost for the season in 2023 before completing a single drive. Fields, tasked with replacing Rodgers, is expected to help Glenn and first-year GM Darren Mougey bring about a new era with Gang Green.
