McMonigle would welcome Brock Purdy trade if Giants believe in him

As the Giants prepare for a critical offseason in which they hope to find their next franchise quarterback, Chris McMonigle has no issue with Big Blue seeking a stopgap option that could become a long-term solution should that quarterback prove himself in 2025.

Similar to what the Vikings did this past offseason by adding Sam Darnold and drafting J.J. McCarthy, C-Mac would like to see New York pursue a veteran quarterback who could be more than a one-year bridge, while still taking a QB with its top draft pick to be prepared for the future.

Perhaps Brock Purdy fits that mold, as the Niners quarterback enters the final year of his rookie deal?

“If Brock Purdy becomes available and the Giants believe in him, I’d trade for him and have him for a year, along with a young quarterback and see what happens,” C-Mac said. “Let me see what Brock Purdy has in Brian Daboll, and I have a quarterback there but believe in Brock Purdy, then I pay Brock Purdy and trade the pick. Whatever you gotta do.

“That’s a viable option, and you’re looking for options like that.”

The Niners have recently said they are committed to sticking with Purdy, but of course, things can change quickly. If they do, C-Mac wouldn’t mind the Giants pouncing, or bringing in any quarterback that could be a bridge to whatever rookie they draft, with potential to become the unexpected long-term solution at the position.

“I’m open to any kind of quarterback situation for the Giants,” C-Mac said. “Ideally, the Minnesota model...the idea of getting a Justin Fields or a guy that can theoretically take the bull by the horns and own the job, along with the draft pick, I think that’s an excellent way to go about it. I want as many chances to find my quarterback as possible.”
