McMonigle: Jets need to bring back Aaron Rodgers to get Aaron Glenn started on right foot

The Jets have found their next head coach in Aaron Glenn, and now, the work really begins for former Gang Green cornerback, as he will be tasked with filling a coaching staff and deciding on the future of the quarterback position.

Aaron Rodgers could come back for another season in New York after a disastrous result in his first healthy campaign, and Chris McMonigle says Glenn should have Rodgers as his quarterback to take some of the pressure off of him in his first season as a head coach.

“If you want to make sure this guy gets off on the right foot, and give this guy an opportunity to get this started in the right direction...you have got to bring back Aaron Rodgers,” C-Mac said.

“This is about making the playoffs. This is about having a winning season. It’s not necessarily about winning a Super Bowl in the next five years. That would be great. But, if this coach wants to get off on the right foot...if you get worse at the quarterback position, you are doing a major disservice to this guy.”

Having an established veteran and future Hall of Famer like Rodgers at a critical position would help Glenn focus on fixing the defense (his specialty), while another season removed from Achilles surgery could help Rodgers be more effective in 2025. With the importance of starting strong and setting the tone for Glenn’s tenure, C-Mac says Rodgers should be the QB1 again next season.

“Rex Ryan came in and was successful year one. Herm Edwards was successful year one, getting to the playoffs,” C-Mac said. “If you’re gonna tell me that this is the guy and he can motivate these guys, it’s almost the perfect fit. You’re bringing in a younger head coach and probably a young offensive coordinator...if you bring back Aaron Rodgers, this team can win.

“Anything short of Aaron Rodgers is weakening your team at the most important position.”
