The Steelers were bounced by the Ravens in Sunday’s Wild Card matchup, as Pittsburgh looked overpowered by its divisional rival in the first half, as Baltimore made quick work of Mike Tomlin’s group.
The latest early playoff ouster led to many fans in the Steel City to call for Tomlin’s job, as the Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2017. But Chris McMonigle says those fans are nuts, and if he were the Jets, he would be trying to pluck Tomlin from Pittsburgh immediately.
“The consistency that Mike Tomlin has given this franchise forever is somehow not good enough,” C-Mac said. “I’m sorry, they would be freaking stupid to move on from Mike Tomlin. Do you see what he’s doing and who he’s doing it with?
“There is no way that the Steelers are gonna move on from Mike Tomlin. But from our point of view, if I were the Jets and I caught wind, I would call Pittsburgh today. Maybe Mike Tomlin wants out of all this crap.”
Tomlin has been the Steelers head coach since 2007, and in that time, he has won a Super Bowl and reached another, reached the playoffs 12 times, and has never posted a losing record. C-Mac would sign up for that kind of consistency with the Jets right now, though it would take some finessing since Tomlin has two years left on his contract, one which reportedly carries a full no-trade clause.
“I would call Pittsburgh today and offer my first-round pick for Mike Tomlin,” C-Mac said. “Woody Johnson should have called on Saturday night. That’s how good of a coach Mike Tomlin is.”
