As the Jets’ quest for a new starting quarterback reaches its apex of drama, one of last year’s signal-callers is unofficially officially gone.

According to Adam Schefter, Mike White and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $16 million to bring White in as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa.
White, who turns 28 later this month, played eight games and started seven for Gang Green over the last two seasons, completing 62.2 percent of his passes for 2,145 yards, eight touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a whole lot of buzz inside and outside the Jets’ locker room.
Last week, White had said during an interview with Joe Rose on WQAM in Miami that he was disappointed he wasn’t cleared to play the Jets’ regular-season finale in his hometown, but as much as he’d like to return to the Jets, he also was enthralled with the idea of coming back to South Florida to play for the Fins.
Indeed, he will do just that, joining the club as the backup behind Tagovailoa, who will also be in Miami for at least the next two seasons after the Dolphins picked up his fifth-year option last week.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, because of the money allocated to Tua, “the Dolphins spoke to quarterbacks with more starting experience, but weren’t inclined to play 1A money for a QB, according to an agent who spoke with them.”
Jackson also quoted that agent as saying “(the Dolphins) just don’t want to allocate a lot to the position.”
So, it’ll be hometown hero White, who is from Broward County, went to University School in Davie, and spent his first two collegiate seasons at South Florida before transferring to Western Kentucky.
