Mike White would 'love' to return to Jets, but is also '100 percent' interested in Dolphins

Mike White was very disappointed when he was unable to play the Jets’ season finale in Miami on January 8, the rib injury he suffered not healed enough for him to be cleared to play in the stadium where he grew up watching games.

“That one was tough,” White said in an appearance on The Joe Rose Show on WQAM in Miami Friday. “When I got the nod to start against Chicago, I had (the Miami) game circled to go home and play in front of family and friends. It would’ve been really cool, but yeah, that was a bummer.”

What wasn’t tough, however, was seeing all the love he was getting from his Jets teammates during that whole period of time – especially the Mike White t-shirts many of them wore.

“Yeah, that was something else. Those are my guys,” White said. “It was a really close-knit locker room, and quarterback room as well – we all supported each other and it was a healthy environment. And, I think that’s the coolest part about playing, is the team aspect of it. You spend so much time with these guys and create bonds – being a backup, you’re basically supporting them and cheering them on any way you can, but when you go out and play with them and produce, it’s a lot of fun.”

So, it’s not a surprise that he said despite the rumors of Aaron Rodgers, or Derek Carr, or any other veteran being in the Jets’ sights, White would love to be back with Gang Green.

“It’s definitely cool when you put together some good film, and I would love to be back with the Jets,” White said. “The locker room’s fantastic, I talk to all those guys every day, but we have to see. I really like the coaching staff, I really like that locker room, and I would love to be back.”

He knows, however, that in the NFL, and especially in free agency, the only certainty is uncertainty.

“Things in this league change so fast and situations are so fluid, and who knows what’s going to happen when,” White said. “Robert Saleh can say one thing today, but plans change. I know how the NFL works, and I’m never going to take anything too personally.”

That’s why, in the same interview, when asked about potentially being that veteran backup the Dolphins are looking for, he was “100 percent” down with heading home to Miami.

“Oh yeah, 100 percent,” he said when asked if he’d consider the Dolphins. “Selfishly, growing up in Miami, I’d love to go back home. But, from a football standpoint, it’s a very talented offense and good young group of guys, and you can tell something special is building, so I’d love to be a part of it.
