Robert Saleh: Getting Jets RBs touches after Dalvin Cook signing 'won't be a problem'

The Jets signed Dalvin Cook to a one-year deal on Monday, adding another big name to the roster and adding a Pro Bowler to a running back room that includes Breece Hall, Michael Carter, and Bam Knight.

How have the other running backs taken the news of Cook coming aboard? Saleh told Joe and Evan that the running back room is ready to take on the challenge of pushing each other, and everyone will get their touches.

“They’re competitive,” Saleh said. “They’re very receptive and excited, but at the same time, I remember when I played tight end at Northern, and my coach installed 10 personnel, which is no tight end on the field. You take it personal, like ‘why are you messing with me?’ It’s not personal. It’s an opportunity to add another really good football player to the room. It doesn’t change anyone’s role.”

The Cook signing had Evan initially worried that he was signed as insurance for Hall, who perhaps wasn’t recovering from his ACL surgery as expected. But that was debunked when Hall was activated from the PUP list on Tuesday morning, and Saleh says Hall will play a prominent role, though there is no clear No. 1 back heading into the season.

“We still anticipate Breece being ready,” Saleh said. “I feel like he’s even ahead of schedule…he looks awesome. He is strong. He has remade his body in the way Jermaine Johnson remade his body.

“I think it’s a good opportunity where we don’t have to label one….if someone is rolling with the hot hand, were rolling. It’s like rich people problems. How do you get the ball to all of them? Getting them touches, I don’t think it will be that big of a problem.”
