Sal Licata battled with callers on his overnight show months back about Matt Ryan being a solid option for the Jets in the short term, as Gang Green clearly needs a quarterback who can compete right now and get this young core to the next level.

Fast forward to Thursday, when Sal was paired with Evan, and Evan had to grill his temporary co-host about that take.

“I want Aaron Rodgers,” Sal said. “If you listen to me, you know I want Aaron Rodgers first and foremost. The Matt Ryan thing came before Aaron Rodgers became an option.

“If you’re not gonna get Rodgers…my way out for the Jets, if not Aaron Rodgers, is to develop Zach Wilson into what you drafted him to be. The best way to do that is to bring in Matt Ryan. There is nobody who can be a better mentor…Matt Ryan won an MVP in that offense, he would be a great mentor, and a quarterback who still has something left. I think he will be a better quarterback than [Jimmy] Garoppolo next year.”

Evan countered that Ryan has nothing left in the tank, as he showed last season with the Colts, but Sal wasn’t backing down.

“Matt Ryan, even at this level, is a better quarterback than Garoppolo and even Ryan Tannehill,” Sal said.
