The Jets announced Monday afternoon that they completed an interview with former Falcons executive Thomas Dimitroff for their vacant general manager position, and Sal Licata says it would be a “home run” for Gang Green.
“I love him. What he did with the Falcons...building this team up from the ground up after Michael Vick was thrown in prison...and he didn’t get fired because he wasn’t very good,” Sal said. “I think they moved on from him because it was time for a change. That happens in sports.
“The guy they hired now...he hasn’t done squat. They stink, the Atlanta Falcons! I would take Dimitroff back.”
As a Falcons fan, Sal watched Dimitroff closely during his time in Atlanta, which spanned from 2008 to 2020 and included drafting Matt Ryan, trading for Julio Jones, and coming oh-so close to a Super Bowl title in 2017. He hasn’t been in the league since he left the Falcons, but Sal says Dimitroff is a proven football mind who would help rebuild the Jets the right way.
“I don’t know what other names will be out there, but Thomas Dimitroff would be a home run hire,” Sal said. “He comes from the Patriots...he had success with Atlanta as the front guy and has had some time away. I think he would be a great hire.”
