In improbable fashion, former Jets wide receiver Mecole Hardman became one of the heroes of Super Bowl XLVIII by catching the game-winning touchdown pass for the Chiefs in overtime.

Travis Kelce sung the praises of Hardman after the game, while calling out Gang Green for letting Hardman go this season.

“I couldn’t be happier for my guy. It brought me to tears seeing that he was the man that got us there,” Kelce said. “Sometimes the media world can be harsh on a guy…Mecole is one of my favorite teammates ever. He keeps showing up and finding ways to win.

“When everybody counted him out, even the Jets counted him out, we were so excited to get him back in the building, because he brings everyone together. He’s got that kind of personality.”

Hardman was let go by the Jets after being a non-factor for most of the season, but didn’t take long to make a monstrous impact for the Chiefs, hauling in a 52-yard catch in the first half before catching the pass that won the Super Bowl.
