Anthony Volpe is back.

The former hyped prospect has been recalled from Triple-A and will join the Yankees ahead of their series finale with the lowly Rockies on Thursday, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.

The move to Volpe comes after the Yanks placed Jazz Chisholm on the IL with a thumb sprain, which he suffered in the eighth inning of Tuesday's win against Colorado. Chisholm appeared to injure the thumb on the basepaths and stayed in the game for the top of the ninth, but was removed after spiking a throw to first base. He will be shut down from baseball activities for the next 7-10 days.

That clears the way for Volpe to get regular time at second base, where the former shortstop has been spending the majority of his time in Triple-A. Since being demoted, Volpe has been tearing the cover off the ball in Scranton, though fans will likely handle his promotion with a high level of skepticism given the underwhelming returns from a former top prospect who the organization lauded as its next homegrown star.

Volpe was recently named the MiLB Player of the Week after hitting .524 with three home runs and three doubles.
