Devin Williams takes shot at Yankee fans on his way to Mets

Devin Williams took a shot at Yankee fans on his way to Queens.

The former Yankee reliever, who has reportedly signed with the Mets on a three-year, $50 million deal, took to Instagram on Wednesday night with a parting message for fans of his former team, who were often critical of the righty’s 2025 season, his lone campaign in pinstripes and statistically the worst of his career.

“For a bunch of people that didn’t want me back on your team, y’all sure are mad in the DMs,” Williams wrote.

Williams was seen as one of the best closers in baseball when the Yanks swung a trade with Milwaukee to bring him to New York. He held a 6.53 ERA through the first two months of the season and blew several saves that many fans pointed to when the Yanks tied the Blue Jays for the AL East crown, and lost it out due to the head-to-head tiebreaker. Williams righted the ship down the stretch of the season and was seen as a candidate to return, but instead, he is heading across town.

Williams, who lost his closer role with the Yanks early in the season, could still be a setup man with the Mets if they bring back Edwin Diaz, who could earn $100 million in free agency.
