Yankees blast off to MLB history with another first inning home run barrage

The Yankees made baseball history on Tuesday night with their home run barrage to open their game against the division rival Orioles.

For the second time this season, the Bombers blasted off with three home runs in their first three at-bats of the game, this time coming by way of Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge, and Ben Rice. Two batters later, Cody Bellinger belted a home run to right field, making it four home runs in the first inning against O’s starter Kyle Gibson.

The Yanks had began a game with three straight homers on the second game of the season against the Brewers and former teammate Nestor Cortes. They are the first team in MLB history to accomplish that feat twice in a season, and they did so just a month into the year.

They are also the first team ever to hit four home runs in the first inning twice in a season, having now done it on March 29 and April 29.

Rice wound up hitting another home run later in the game, and the Yankees rolled to a 15-3 victory.
