Nick Swisher, a former Yankee notorious for his unrelenting desire to keep things positive in the clubhouse, applauds current Yankees like Zack Britton and Luke Voit for their assessments of Domingo German.

Britton, when speaking on German and his recent 81-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy, said he “didn’t agree with what [German] did,” and “I don’t think it has any place in the game or off the field at all.” Voit went on to say that German, who recently rejoined the team for the first time since 2019 and made his first public apology on Wednesday, had the team’s back but is “skating on thin ice.”

“I don’t think it’s hard for them to do that at all,” Swisher said to Moose & Maggie on multiple Yankees speaking honestly about German’s actions. “You gotta love their stance. What he did was wrong, and he needs to take responsibility and understand exactly what he did. I don’t care if you’re a player or any human being, there’s just no place for that.”

German addressed the team this week, but the team made it clear in their comments to reporters that the 28-year-old would have to prove himself through his actions, and Swisher is confident in the players in the Yankee clubhouse doing what’s necessary to hold German accountable to change.

“People make mistakes, I get that, but to be able to be in that New York Yankee locker room is a privilege, and honor and a blessing,” Swisher said. “Understand how fortunate you are to be in there. I stand behind that. I have a wife and two daughters. I don’t have time for that. For Luke to stand up to that and for Zack to stand up to that, you have to applaud those guys.”

German’s apology is the first step in a long way back toward the good graces of his teammates and many around the Yankees, including Swisher, who is a special adviser with the team.

“I’m not in that locker room, so he doesn’t have to apologize to me,” Swisher said. “It’s tough. I’d definitely want him to apologize and accept responsibility, and I guess move on from that. There’s a reason why those guys are in that locker room, and they’ll handle it appropriately.”
