C-Mac took the airwaves shortly after the Phillies slugged their way to another playoff win, taking a 2-0 series lead on the Diamondbacks thanks to three home runs pacing a 10-0 rout.
As the Phils continue to ride the long ball through their postseason run, C-Mac wants to know where the criticism is from Yankee fans that relying on the home run can’t lead to playoff success.
“It’s funny how that works. If the Yankees had a leadoff hitter who hit .197, I wonder what people would say,” C-Mac said of Kyle Schwarber, who rocked two home runs on Tuesday night. “But he hits in the postseason, so it doesn’t matter. He’s Joey Gallo circa 2018, but better, and he hits in the postseason.
“The Phillies are smashing home runs. The Phillies are the team that a lot of Yankee fans think the Yankees are, and that’s why they fail.”
The Phils hit another three home runs in game one of the NLCS, and Bryce Harper’s home run against the Braves in game four of the NLDS proved to be the difference in the series-clinching victory. The Phillies are built similarly to Yankees teams of recent years, but C-Mac says the only difference is that the Phillies are continuing to slug in October.
“You gotta get guys who can hit in the postseason. That’s it,” C-Mac said. “These guys are smashing their way through the postseason. Texas, they’ve gotten good starting pitching…but they’ve smashed their way through the postseason.
“Schwarber is the type of player that the Yankee fan calls me and complains about. ‘You can’t have these all-or-nothing guys, home runs disappear in the postseason.” It’s nonsense. It’s always been nonsense…if Schwarber hits home runs in the postseason, that’s great. It’s that simple…home runs don’t disappear in the postseason. That’s how they’re winning.”
