J.T. Realmuto made his spring debut on Tuesday night after recovering from a broken thumb, and he’s immediately working on his defensive versatility.

In a Phillies simulated game on Wednesday, the star catcher was the lone fielder, playing shortstop behind Yankees lefty starter Jordan Montgomery, who was brought over to get in some extra work while the rest of the Yanks were taking on the Blue Jays.

Spring training always brings about unique scenes and lineups while teams form their Opening Day rosters, but Wednesday was especially unique with Realmuto alone in the field, backing up Montgomery.

Looks like Realmuto is getting work in wherever he can to make sure he’s ready for Opening Day, which is just over a week away.
