Just as the Rams were finishing off a Thursday Night Football win over the Saints, their social media account trolled the Yankees in the wake of the Yoshinobu Yamamoto breaking news.
As news broke that Yamamoto was signing a 12-year, $325 million deal with the Dodgers, the Rams posted a video clip of a Rams jersey hanging from the field goal uprights at SoFi Stadium, with Yamamoto’s name and his No. 18 on the back.
The video was posted with the caption, “Got one with your name on it too, Yoshinobu.”
The post seemed like a clear troll of the Yankees, just hours after manager Aaron Boone told reporters that he had given Yamamoto a No. 18 pinstriped jersey as the Bombers tried to lock up the Japanese star. The Yanks had reportedly left No. 18, Yamamoto’s number, vacant all of last season in case the righty became a Yankee.
But the Yanks reportedly capped their bidding, while the Dodgers went up to 12 years and $325 million, helping Yamamoto’s decision to join the Dodgers much to the delight of the football team that shares a city with the MLB superteam that also employs Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts.
