Report: Yankees add Jay Bruce to roster

Jay Bruce will be on the Yankees roster for Opening Day, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.

Bruce started the spring strong with a couple home runs but had struggled at the plate recently. A decision had to be made 48 hours from Thursday, but it appears the Yanks have decided to keep the veteran outfielder, who has also played some first base for the Yankees this spring.

Bruce's addition didn't impact backup outfielder Mike Tauchman, who also made the team after reportedly receiving trade interest from other teams in recent weeks. Tauchman had a breakout 2019 campaign but struggled last year, though he was battling shoulder injuries.

The 2021 campaign will be Bruce's 14th big-league season. He batted .198 in 103 plate appearances for the Phillies last season.

Derek Dietrich is another non-roster invite whose decision has not yet been reported, but he was removed from the lineup on Friday shortly before the game.
