Brian Cashman expressed faith in the Yankee offense without Aaron Judge prior to Tuesday’s win over the Mariners, but Sal Licata says Judge’s absence only magnifies the general manager’s mistakes in building the lineup.

“Brian Cashman has made some brilliant moves over the years,” Sal said. “Every general manager has some good and some bad. Brian Cashman has whiffed badly on what he’s tried to do at shortstop the last couple seasons, and with Josh Donaldson. That was a terrible trade.

“The youngsters have not developed. Oswaldo Cabrera was supposed to be a versatile player…being some energy and provide some offense. He hasn’t done that.”

Anthony Volpe has also struggled in his rookie season, though Cashman expressed his commitment to Volpe on Tuesday. So the Yanks will roll with what they have, though their key bats haven’t proven to be what Cashman hoped for.

“It’s not just that they’re missing something,” Sal said. “It’s the guys that they have here aren’t getting the job done.

“It’s the players they have here that aren’t getting the job done, that’s the issue. Aaron Judge, in the lineup, masks the Yankees’ weaknesses. He did it a year ago. He masks deficiencies on the team. When he’s out, they’re exposed. The inconsistencies of Rizzo, Stanton, the awfulness of Donaldson, it gets exposed without Judge.”
