Sal goes off on Aaron Boone's 'lanes' explanations: 'You're not a bowler. You're a manager'

Aaron Boone drew some criticism from Yankee fans on Tuesday night when he called on the recently called up Clayton Andrews to handle the eighth inning after Gleyber Torres had trimmed New York’s deficit to 4-3 after a three-run homer.

Andrews, promoted to the majors to take the spot of Ian Hamilton (who was placed on the COVID IL), served up a solo home run to Luke Raley on the first pitch of his pinstriped debut to give breathing room right back to the Mariners, who went on to win in the Bronx for the second night in a row.

After the game, Boone told reporters that he “liked the lane” for Andrews in that spot against the lefty Raley, and the mere mention of “lane” set Sal off during Wednesday’s show.

“Stop talking about these ‘lanes’ Boonie,” Sal said. “You’re not a bowler. You’re a manger.

“I can’t stand when he says that. These ‘lanes.’”

Sal has often criticized Boone for being a “data applicator” more than a manager, a criticism that Boone himself has pushed back on. But Sal is sick of the verbiage from Boone, especially when it comes to a head-scratching decision like going to Andrews on Tuesday.

“Just say you like the matchup even…come on now,” Sal said. “Talking about lanes again. He’d rather be bowling than managing.”
