Sal says Yankees need to add middle-of-the-order bat: 'They’re gonna rely on Rizzo or Stanton?'
The Yankees have lost consecutive games for the first time this season, and Sal says there are lingering concerns about the Bombers lineup.
While Sal believes the Yanks have the best top three hitters in a lineup in all of baseball, he believes the middle and bottom of the order cannot remain as currently constructed through the season if the team is to accomplish its lofty goals.
“They’re gonna need to add another middle-of-the-order bat. A five hitter,” Sal said. “They’re gonna rely on Rizzo or Stanton?
“As great as they are, at some point, especially with those guys that like to walk…at some point, the guys behind them need to drive them in.”
The trade deadline is a ways away, and there is no telling what bats might materialize on the trading block, but Sal predicts that the Yanks are going to need one, as he doesn’t believe in the bats currently lingering behind the likes of Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto, and Aaron Judge.
“I personally don’t trust Stanton to do what he’s been doing early on. He’s way too up and down,” Sal said. “Rizzo, don’t believe in. Gleyber looks lost. Bottom of the order, Austin Wells and Verdugo.”
