The Yankees were able to claim their anticipated weekend series against the Dodgers thanks in large part to Domingo German’s stellar performance, as he allowed just one run over 6.2 innings of work.
The lone blemish for German was a solo shot by J.D. Martinez at the very end of his outing, but he matched Bobby Miller pitch for pitch to allow the Yanks to come away with a 4-1 win in Sunday’s rubber game.
German has had a few clunkers this season, but Sal says it’s time to give the righty his respect.
“When are people gonna stop sleeping on Domingo German?” Sal said. “I wouldn’t say I’d trust him to be an ace-type or whatever, but Domingo German has been very good.”
German holds a solid 3.69 ERA, and over his last six starts, his ERA is just 2.31. There were multiple incidents involving umpires grilling him for sticky substances, and he was ejected and hit with a 10-game suspension, but overall, Sal has liked what he’s seen from German, who wasn’t expected to be a part of the team’s Opening Day rotation, and has been disrespected by many despite showing up when he’s been needed.
“The Yankees, somehow, going into that game to win a series against the Dodgers…the Yankees were +155. How is that even possible?” Sal said. “If you watched Domingo German this year, you know he’s pretty darn good.
“Domingo German was being disrespected for that line.”
