Sal: Yankees still have problem in Carlos Rodon after 'walking the ballpark'
Carlos Rodon didn’t have his best stuff on Tuesday night, allowing five hits over four innings while walking four in an eventual loss to the Blue Jays.
Sal had pinned the start as an important one before the game, calling on Rodon to avoid a three-game losing streak for the Yanks. Rodon did not deliver, and Sal says it is a problem for New York.
“Everybody was quick to say ‘Oh Rodon is back, he looks so good!’” Sal said. “In a game you and I said that he needed to go out there and be a stopper and avoid losing three straight…He only lasted four innings, giving up the three runs that he did, walking the ballpark. The Yankees have some issues.”
The Yankees were hoping Rodon would put a dreadful debut season behind him and come out looking like the pitcher they paid $162 million for two offseasons ago. Rodon has certainly been better, but not near the level of what the Yanks paid for, and Sal says it is not acceptable.
“At what point do we get to with this team when you start having some concerns?” Sal said. “Carlos Rodon is supposed to be the No. 2 guy in this rotation, he goes four innings…in a spot where the Yankees need, him predictably so, he walks the ballpark and just doesn’t have enough to get the job done.”
