Shaun & Tiki react to Nestor Cortes injury: Is the season officially over now?

The Yankees were dealt another brutal piece of injury news on Friday, with Nestor Cortes being placed on the 15-day IL after making just one start in his return from the 60-day IL.

The 2022 All-Star is on the shelf with the same injury that he was sidelined with initially, a left rotator cuff strain that will shut him down from throwing for 3-4 weeks, meaning his season could very well be over.

“That’s it,” Tiki said. “I’m surprised that’s not a 60, just end the season type of thing.

“The crazy thing is, you might have to keep [Severino] up, because you don’t have any other arms.”

Luis Severino is indeed slated to pitch on Tuesday against the mighty Braves, and Shaun Morash can’t help but feel dejected when looking at the state of the Yankee rotation with Cortes joining Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas, and Domingo German as starters who are currently unavailable, with the latter two all but guaranteed to be out for the year.

“They are four games out in the loss, 4.5 back…the main sell about making the playoffs was the rotation…it was pitching,” Shaun said. “It was Gerrit Cole at the top, Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes. It’s Cole, Clarke Schmidt, Vasquez, Jhony Brito, and Luis Severino. That’s their rotation for the stretch. It’s Cole, Schmidt, and nothing.

“They have no pitching left!”
