As the Yankees continue to get tormented by Shohei Ohtani in their series against the Angels, many wonder if the Bombers could go all in and put together a package to acquire the two-way superstar at the trade deadline.
Keith says those conversations need to stop, because it’s nothing more than wishful thinking.
“A Shohei Ohtani trade to the Yankees is not gonna happen,” Keith said. “That guy does not want to be a Yankee.”
Even if the Yankees traded for Ohtani and tried to sell him on New York leading into free agency before offering him a massive payday, Keith doesn’t think that would be enough to convince Ohtani to spend the rest of his career in the Bronx.
“The money isn’t a thing for Shohei,” Keith said. “He makes more money off the field than any other Major League Baseball player by eight times.”
Instead of believing he is watching a potential future Yankee, Keith sees a superstar who is loving every second of sticking it to the Bombers, as he has this week.
“Does that look like a guy that wants to be a Yankee? That bat flip?” Keith said, noting Ohtani’s game-tying home run on Monday night. “He’ll never be a Yankee. He doesn’t want to be a Yankee. The only way they get him is if they trade everything for him, and they’re not doing that. They’re not trading Volpe and Peraza.”
