Suzyn Waldman loves to see Yankees 'building a team,' and hears that they're not done adding

Suzyn Waldman joined BT and Sal on Wednesday from Yankee Stadium as the Yanks prepared to introduce Max Fried as their new starting pitcher, just hours after announcing the acquisition of Cody Bellinger.

For Suzyn, the way the Bombers have been pivoting in the wake of losing Juan Soto is the way they should be doing it, and agrees with Brandon Tierney that the Yanks have a chance to be even better as they address multiple roster needs rather than committing all that money to Soto.

“I love building a team,” Suzyn said. “They’re not done. I was told by three different people that they’re not done.

“I love this. This is my favorite thing, which is building a team and not just spending money on a couple people and going that way. They are not done, I am told. We will see what happens.”

Whether not being done means Christian Walker or Pete Alonso at first base or a third base addition remains to be seen, but Suzyn would prioritize the hot corner.

“They better get a third baseman here,” Suzyn said. “If you’re gonna spend this money on Max Fried, then you better have a real third baseman standing there, because that’s what he does. That’s where the balls go.

“They gotta do something at third base. Someone has to be standing over there who knows what they’re doing.”

The Yankees also need to upgrade the offense with Soto departing for Queens, but Suzyn believes there is a chance to not only make up for that production that won’t be back in 2025, but to be even better.

“He clearly wanted to be over there. I hope he has a wonderful year,” Suzyn said of Soto. “I like making a team.

“This is baseball. This is not basketball.”
