Suzyn Waldman: World Series appearance means 'the world' to Aaron Judge

Suzyn Waldman is going to check in with BT & Sal once she gets to Los Angeles to make sure that the outfield wall is padded – meaning no one, like say Aaron Judge, injures their foot again.

And in coming on with the guys to discuss the World Series, which starts Friday at Dodger Stadium, she couldn’t hide her excitement for one more week of work.

“I’m very pumped up about it; World Series are great, and I've obviously done a lot of them, but Yankees-Dodgers is I think the ultimate for everybody,” Suzyn said. “If you can't love this, then you don't love baseball.”

Also fired up will be Judge, who was one win away with the 2017 Yankees in his first full season, but didn’t get there until Juan Soto’s homer left Progressive Field last Saturday night.

“I think this means the world to him, I think it really does. He doesn’t say a lot, he’s very Jeter-esque and always does the right thing, but I know that emotionally for him, this is a really big deal,” Suzyn said. “This is something that he's played with for so long and wanted to be here, and I hope he can put out losing to Houston after this, because you're here and you went through a lot of teams to get here.”

The other person this series means a lot to will be the guy possible hitting behind Judge in Giancarlo Stanton, who grew up going to Dodger Stadium and now has a chance to win a World Series played in that park.

“What he has done in this playoffs, I think has been monumental for him and his legacy,” Suzyn said. “This is someone also that has waited for this a very, very long time.”

But as for Judge, to BT, who you should know is a huge Don Mattingly fan, does the Captain have to win one to become a true iconic, all-time Yankee, something maybe Mattingly can’t be?

“Mattingly is totally different because the teams weren't good, so it wasn’t Mattingly's fault,” Suzyn said, “but you know you're not an all-time iconic Yankee unless you win. That series against Seattle (the 1995 ALDS), I’ve never seen anyone as loved as Don Mattingly, but the whole situation was different.”
