The Yankees will have a gaping hole in their lineup once again with Aaron Judge on the IL, but Tiki says the real problem will be trying to manage the injuries in the starting rotation.
With Nestor Cortes joining Carlos Rodon and Frankie Montas on the IL, while Luis Severino remains a consistent injury risk, Tiki says the Bombers need to have some urgency in looking to add a starter via trade.
“They’re now getting the injury bug like the lineup has had…it forces the Yankees into this scramble to find starting pitching,” Tiki said. “Who knows what’s going to happen with the arms they’ll bring up to fill the void that’s sitting there now without Nestor Cortes, but it’s not gonna be something that’s gonna feel viable or sustainable. They’re trying to manage a starting rotation that is grossly inconsistent…when you get to the point where you’re scrapping and trying to piece together a rotation…the Yankees are going to fall into a trap of chasing success rather than knowing they’re gonna have success.
“It might be time for them to trade Gleyber Torres for a starting pitcher...there’s not a ton of options, but the Yankees need to find an option to combat this injury bug that’s starting to creep into their starting rotation.”
The Yankees have called on the likes of Domingo German, Clarke Schmidt, Jhony Brito, and Randy Vasquez to eat up innings in the rotation, but Tiki says it won’t be enough to keep the team afloat for the long haul.
“They’re gonna have to trade for an arm, for a starting pitcher,” Tiki said. “Gerrit Cole can’t do it himself. I don’t trust Severino…I don’t have the faith in the starting pitching that this team is going to need without Aaron Judge in this lineup.”
