The Rangers are World Series champions for the first time ever, meaning the likes of Jordan Montgomery, Andrew Heaney, and Nathan Eovaldi are world champs.
But the one that might hurt the most for Yankee fans was watching Aroldis Chapman hoist the trophy.
Yankees Universe lamented Chapman winning another title on social media after the final out was secured, with Chapman contributing to the win in the clinching game five. Chapman, who has been behind some of the most painful moments in recent Yankees postseason history, like serving up the series-clinching walk-off home run to Jose Altuve in the 2019 ALCS, and the eventual series-clinching home run to Michael Brosseau in game five of the 2020 ALDS.
Chapman, left off of the Yankees’ postseason roster last season after skipping a team workout, was not brought back after his contract expired, eventually signing with the Royals last winter. He was dealt to Texas prior to this year’s trade deadline, and is now a World Series champion for the second time.
The last time Chapman won a title, he was traded from the Yanks in their 2016 fire sale that birthed the Baby Bombers era, and Chapman went on to win a historic title with the Cubs, ending their 108-year drought (though Chapman nearly blew it by giving up a dramatic game-tying home run to Rajai Davis in game seven).
So, having now won two titles immediately after taking off the pinstripes, Chapman is now even more maligned by Yankee fans this week.
