Aaron Boone finished fifth in the AL Manager of the Year voting, earning one second-place and one third-place vote in the race won by Cleveland’s Terry Francona.

Tito earned 17 first-place and nine second-place votes to win his third AL Manager of the Year Award, becoming the ninth three-time Manager of the Year and the third to do so with one franchise. Baltimore’s Brandon Hyde, Seattle’s Scott Servais, and World Series Champion Astros skipper Dusty Baker – one of the previous managers to also win three times with one franchise – placed second, third, and fourth, respectively, with all three receiving first-place votes.
Boone got both of his votes from reporters representing the Los Angeles chapter of the BBWAA, per their website, both of whom gave Baker first-place nods and had Servais as the other name on their ballots.
The Yankees skipper finished fifth after piloting the Yankees to a 99-63 regular season that, at one point, was on pace to set a new MLB wins record. He received votes for the first time since 2019, when he finished second to Minnesota’s Rocco Baldelli, and leaves the Yankees still searching for their first MOY since Joe Torre won in 1998.
Rays skipper Kevin Cash was the only other manager to earn votes in 2022, getting one third-place nod.
New York’s two voters, Newsday’s David Lennon and NJ.com’s Bob Klapisch, both had Francona-Hyde-Servais as their ballots.
The announcement of the award was made by Mets manager Buck Showalter, who himself was one of the three finalist for the NL Manager of the Year Award.
