Yankees acquire RHP David McKay from Tampa Bay Rays

The Yankees have added another potential bullpen arm, acquiring RHP David McKay from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations.

McKay, who has a minor-league option remaining, will go on the 40-man roster, requiring a reciprocal move to be announced later.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Rays on a minor-league deal this winter, did not pitch in 2021 due to hip surgery. He has a 6.08 ERA in 26 2/3 innings over 26 relief appearances for the Tigers and Mariners.

McKay was once upon a time a Mets draftee, selected in the 30th round out of high school in 2013, but he chose to go to Florida Atlantic and was re-selected in the 14th round in 2016 by Kansas City. He joins a relief corps that lost one piece of right-handed depth when the Yankees traded Albert Abreu to Texas last week, and has been without Stephen Ridings all spring as he battles a neck issue.
