Giancarlo Stanton is the Yankees’ left fielder for their ALCS opener on Wednesday night, marking the first time the prolific slugger has played the field since July 21.
With Stanton in left, the DH spot has been opened up for Matt Carpenter, who is in the starting lineup for the first time this postseason. The lefty is batting sixth, behind third baseman Josh Donaldson.
Another noticeable change to the Yankee order is the return of Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who did not start in the final two games of the ALDS due to some fielding struggles at shortstop. He was replaced by rookie Oswaldo Cabrera, who started every postseason game at either shortstop or left field, but he, along with fellow rookie Oswald Peraza, will start game two on the bench.
