A once highly-touted prospect is back in the Bronx after a failed first experience with the Yankees.
Greg Bird, whose once promising big league career was derailed by injuries, is back in pinstripes after signing a minor league deal. Bird, 29, will report to Triple-A Scranton.

Bird had previously inked a minor league deal with the Blue Jays, but was released on Monday after a solid spring in which he slugged .565 with a home run, a double, and five walks in 28 plate appearances.
Back in 2015, Bird was seen as the first baseman of the future for the Yanks, but after a promising 2015 greeting, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, then led the league in spring training home runs prior to the 2017 season before a ball off his foot led to another injury-riddled campaign. He came back strong in September and blasted three postseason home runs, but injuries continued to flare up, including plantar fasciitis that derailed his 2019 season, before the Yankees eventually moved on.
