The circle of bullpen life continues for the Yankees: the team announced that RHP David McKay has been dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.
McKay, 27, was acquired from the Rays back in April for cash considerations – literally $1, according to the AP – and spent most of his time in the organization in Triple-A. He did pitch two scoreless innings over two outings in the Bronx, and had a 2.91 ERA in 21 2/3 innings over 17 appearances at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The righty was designated for assignment earlier this week, however, when the Yankees claimed RHP Albert Abreu – whom they had dealt to Texas for catcher Jose Trevino back in April – off waivers from Kansas City.
Abreu was added to the Yankees’ active roster Thursday, with the Yankees optioning RHP Clarke Schmidt to Triple-A. In addition, RHP Ryan Weber, who followed Schmidt’s spot start last weekend when Luis Severino missed a start on the COVID-19 IL and was promptly DFA, was re-signed to a minor-league deal and also assigned to the RailRiders.
