The Yankees made franchise history in Monday night’s win over the Mets, thanks to Jonathan Loaisiga locking down the save to take the series opener from their crosstown rivals.
By closing out the win, Loaisiga became the 11th different Yankee pitcher to record a save this season, the most in franchise history, per the YES Network. That eclipses the previous record of 10 equaled by four other teams between 1953 and 1964, though saves had yet to become an official stat at that point.
Injuries and closer struggles have led to the high number of individual saves, as Aroldis Chapman struggled before hitting the IL, replacement Clay Holmes also struggled before landing on the IL, and on Monday, it was Loaisiga, who has shown drastic improvement of late, and perhaps could be in line for more saves down the road.
