Frankie Montas is reportedly heading for an MRI after his latest dud on Friday night.
Montas, the Yankees’ big pitching acquisition at the deadline, didn’t make it out of the fourth inning on Friday after being given an early 5-0 lead, but is now going to be evaluated for a right shoulder injury, according to Erik Boland of Newsday and Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network.
Montas, 29, has made eight starts since arriving in New York, and has posted a lousy 6.35 ERA after logging a 3.18 ERA with the A’s before the trade. Montas did experience shoulder inflammation shortly before the Yankees acquired him, missing out on other pitchers like Luis Castillo and Pablo Lopez.
Domingo German, who came out of the bullpen on Friday, will likely move back into the rotation, and Luis Severino is expected back this week. Per Marakovits, Montas will miss his next start and await MRI results to see if he will need to be placed on the IL.
