Aaron Boone provided reporters with a load of injury updates in regards to their many walking wounded ahead of Saturday’s game against the Rays.
Luis Severino, who said he hoped to return to the Yanks as soon as he was eligible on Monday, will instead throw one more rehab game before making his return against the Pirates on Sept. 20 or Sept. 21. Severino was placed on the 60-day IL with a lat strain.
Anthony Rizzo received a blood patch that helped his migraines, and will be resuming baseball activities. Boone estimated that the first baseman could return at the back end of the team’s upcoming road trip, which begins on Tuesday in Boston and ends on Sept. 18 in Milwaukee.
Miguel Castro, Aroldis Chapman, Zack Britton, and Harrison Bader will all be playing in a rebab game for Double-A Somerset on Sunday, with Chapman estimating that he will need only two rehab appearances before joining the team on the upcoming road trip.
Bader could be ready to return when the Yanks return from that road trip on Sept. 20 to face the Pirates, as could reliever Scott Effross, who is recovering from a shoulder strain.
