Aaron Boone provided a plethora of injury updates to reporters on Wednesday, including the latest on big injured bats in Matt Carpenter and Andrew Benintendi.
Carpenter, who fractured his foot on a foul ball, “showed healing” in his most recent X-rays and will start moving forward in his recovery. Boone said that would include standing in on a bullpen on Wednesday to track pitches, but that Carpenter would likely not be ready until the postseason.
The same timeline was said for Benintendi, working his way back from a broken hamate bone in his hand.
On the more immediate horizon, Scott Effross will be activated on Thursday in some relief help for the Yanks, while Zack Britton’s rehab assignment has expired, but the Yankees are waiting to activate him.
DJ LeMahieu is still working his way back from his toe injury, and Boone admitted that the veteran infielder likely won’t be 100 percent when he returns, but they will get him as close to full strength as possible.
