The Yankees’ big free agent acquisition in Carlos Rodon did not pan out last year, but MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that the Bombers are showing “early interest” in two of the top free agent arms on this year’s market.

Per Morosi, the Yanks “are among the most active teams in the starting pitching market,” and they are showing interest in Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Aaron Nola, “among others.”

Brian Cashman traveled overseas to watch Yamamoto pitch a no-hitter earlier this year, and the Japanese star is expected to command a big contract, something the Yankees have had previous success with in the form of Masahiro Tanaka.

Nola was up and down in 2023, pitching to a 4.46 ERA after he and the Phillies couldn’t come to terms on an extension before the season. still, his playoff success makes him an attractive piece, and he allowed just six runs in 23 innings of work during Philly’s playoff run this season.
