Accolades and congratulations have been pouring in all day Monday since Suzyn Waldman was named as one of nine members for the Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2022, and now, both the Yankees and MLB have weighed in.
“The New York Yankees offer their heartfelt congratulations to Suzyn Waldman on being elected to the Museum of Broadcast Communications Radio Hall of Fame," the Yankees' statement read. "Both as a reporter covering the team and as a broadcaster in the booth, Suzyn has informed and entertained Yankees fans with precision and care for 36 years. This accomplishment is the deserved result of decades of hard work and dedication to her craft, and we would be remiss to not laud her professionalism and resolve while staring down countless obstacles as a pioneering woman in her field. The Yankees are thrilled to see her recognized in this fashion as she takes her place alongside other luminaries in the broadcast radio world.”
MLB's statement congratulated Waldman as well as two other inductees and former WFAN VIPs - Chris "Mad Dog" Russo and Jeff Smulyan, the former Mariners owner who also owned Emmis Communications, WFAN's original parent company - but singled out on Suzyn's role as a trailblazer:
Waldman, Russo, Smulyan, and the other six inductees - including jock "Broadway" Bill Lee from our sister station WCBS 101.1-FM - will be inducted on November 1 in Chicago.
