Yankees non-tender Jon Berti and Tim Mayza, agree to deals with Trent Grisham and JT Brubaker

Four members of the Yankees’ arbitration class are settled, as the team announced Friday night that they have non-tendered infielder Jon Berti and LHP Tim Mayza, and agreed to one-year contracts with RHP JT Brubaker and OF Trent Grisham to avoid arbitration.

Terms were not disclosed, although MLB Trade Rumors’ projections had Berti projected to make $3.8 million, Mayza at $4 million, Grisham at $5.7 million, and Brubaker at $2 million. All four are in their final year of arbitration eligibility.

Berti, 34, was acquired from Miami last offseason but played just 25 games around a pair of left leg injuries, hitting .273 with one home run and six RBI. He ended up starting three playoff games, his first-ever appearances at first base, and was 2-for-11, but he suffered a third leg injury while pinch-running in the ALCS and was not on the World Series roster.

Mayza, 32, was signed in July after being released by Toronto and appeared in 15 games, pitching to a 4.00 ERA in 18 innings. He also pitched in one game of each round of the postseason, throwing a total of 2 1/3 scoreless frames.

Grisham, 28, was acquired in the Juan Soto deal and played in 76 games, slashing .190/.290/.385 with nine home runs and 31 RBI. He was on the postseason roster for all three rounds but did not appear.

Brubaker, 31, was acquired from Pittsburgh in March for a PTBNL (who ended up being Keiner Delgado), and he had a 2.70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings across four minor-league levels as he rehabbed from Tommy John surgery and a back injury suffered mid-summer.

The Yankees still have six players eligible for salary arbitration, led by Nestor Cortes and Jazz Chisholm Jr. The group also includes Jose Trevino, Mark Leiter Jr., Clarke Schmidt, and Scott Effross.
