The Yankees will be without one of their top bullpen arms for another few months.
Aaron Boone told reporters on Monday that Jonathan Loaisiga, who has been out since the first week of the season, will be out until likely August or September, as he is set to undergo surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
Loaisiga pitched just 3.1 innings this season before hitting the IL, and missed time last season as well, pitching 48 innings and posting a 4.13 ERA.
The 28-year-old was expected to be a key part of the Yankee bullpen, as was Lou Trivino, who was just transferred to the 60-day IL.
In better injury news, Harrison Bader could be activated as soon as Tuesday, as he is nearly back from an oblique strain that has kept him off the field since spring training.
As for Aaron Judge and his mild hip strain, the Yankees have not decided whether he will require an IL stint, but it seems to be leaning towards a day-to-day situation.
Luis Severino will make his first rehab start Wednesday in Tampa, and is likely 2-3 weeks away from making his return.
