The Yankees have reportedly made their first notable offseason move, and it means the likely end of Domingo German’s tenure in pinstripes.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yanks have outrighted German, among multiple others, meaning the righty can be claimed by another team or elect free agency.
German has had an up-and-down tenure with the Yanks, to say the least.
He was not a factor in the 2019 playoffs due to a domestic incident that resulted in an 81-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy. He rebounded earlier this season to pitch a perfect game after serving a suspension following an ejection for sticky substances, then was placed on the restricted list in August after a clubhouse incident led the team to suggest treatment for alcohol abuse.
German was under team control through next season, but it appears as if his time with the Yanks is over.
Also placed on outright waivers were Jimmy Cordero, Franchy Cordero, Matt Bowman, Billy McKinney, and Ryan Weber.
