UPDATE: The Yankees announced Thursday that Cordero has been signed to a major league contract and added to the active roster.

The Yankees have added some outfield depth, according to multiple reports, signing Franchy Cordero to a split contract.

The 28-year-old will make $1 million if he plays in the majors, and $180,000 if he plays in the minors.

Cordero, recently released by the Orioles, shined this spring in the form of a .413/.426/.674 slash line, hitting two home runs in 18 games.

Cordero has been lauded for his raw power and exit velocity numbers, which should help him fit right in with this Yankees roster, but those tools haven’t led to results over his six-year career. He posted a .697 OPS with eight home runs in 84 games with the Red Sox last season, and for his career, is a .221 hitter with a .676 OPS and 21 home runs in 653 at-bats.
